Our family participated in Toys For Tots this year. We're teaching our kids that there are less fortunate children out there that would like to also receive gifts for Christmas. So we took them to the store and had them pick out one of their favorite toys. (Of course Andrew received a little help with this.) We then drove to the mall and walked the toys to the food court where they were accepting the donations. As soon as the kids gave them the toys, we were given a "Toys For Tots" pin and asked by a lady with a video recorder to answer some questions. She said she had been waiting almost all day for a family to show up. Asked us why we feel it's important to give to Toys For Tots, especially with the economy not being so good. We told her that regardless what is going in the economy, we are willing to cut back in our giving to each other to help those in need instead and that it's important for us to teach our children this valuable lesson: that it's better to give than to receive. We had so much fun doing this and hope to continue to participate in the years to come!
